Volunteer Drivers are needed in the communities of Cambridge Narrows, Hanwell, Kingsclear, Oromocto, and New Maryland to provide door to door transportation service, primarily to seniors needing rides to essential services.
Volunteers offer “more than a drive” to passengers – they offer independence, security, support, and the ability to age-in place. They are caring, community-minded people. Some choose to volunteer because they have seen the consequences of insufficient transportation services negatively impacting the quality of life of their own families. Others are neighborly individuals who wish to remain involved in their community in significant ways.
There are no specific physical requirements necessary. Passengers are required to be physically able to get in and out of a vehicle independently. If they are not independent, a support person is required to join them. This type of assistance is not required of the Volunteer Driver.
Volunteer Drivers communicate their level of availability to offer drive service. It can be as frequent as they wish or limited to only a certain day or days of the week. No booking is made without the driver confirming their agreement to the ride in advance. Rides are booked to occur Monday to Friday between 9 am to 5pm. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage expenses monthly.
