Volunteers needed to help children learn to read

Description

Volunteers like you are changing the story about New Brunswick’s literacy crisis one child at a time. To ensure your contribution has the greatest impact, we empower our volunteers with training and resources so you feel confident and supported in providing explicit instruction to struggling readers in grade 2.

Children meet with their volunteer tutor twice a week at a pre-arranged time. Volunteers agree to provide 20, 45-minute lessons to students, over a 10-week period.

Our virtual program is aligned with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s Building blocks of reading and combines instruction, games, and decodable reading to improve these skills.  It is significantly more structured and scripted for the volunteer to improve the quality of the intervention.

We believe every child deserves literacy. Join us and help change the trajectory of a child’s life and the future of our province. Give the gift of literacy today.
