Who We Are

Elementary Literacy Inc. a local charity organization that has supported over 6000 students to read in New Brunswick over the past decade, have created a newly redesigned, virtually-delivered ELF @ Home program. This is a 1 on 1 literacy support program for emerging or struggling readers in grade 2.

What We Do

Volunteers like you are changing the story about New Brunswick’s literacy crisis one child at a time. To ensure your contribution has the greatest impact, we empower our volunteers with training and resources so you feel confident and supported in providing instruction to struggling readers in grade 2.

Children meet with their volunteer tutor twice a week at a pre-arranged time. Volunteers agree to provide 20, 45-minute lessons to students, over a 10-week period.

Our virtual program is aligned with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s Building blocks of reading and combines instruction, games, and decodable reading to improve these skills.  It is significantly more structured and scripted for the volunteer to improve the quality of the intervention.
