Description

Lily's Place, a vegan-run sanctuary for aging, injured, and displaced farm animals, is seeking a skilled Development and Donor Cultivation Specialist. 

This role will focus on fundraising that’s in line with our mission and helping the sanctuary find sustainable revenue streams, as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with major donors. This role requires a strong understanding of donor cultivation, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of securing major gifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, research, and evaluate prospective major donors with the capacity to contribute significantly to the organization.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with major donors through personalized engagement strategies, including meetings, calls, events, and written communications.
  • Develop individualized solicitation strategies to maximize major gifts potential, aligning donor interests with organization projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the board of directors to gather impactful stories and data that demonstrate the organization's mission and achievements.
  • Work closely with the board of directors and key volunteers to determine the sanctuary’s financial needs and calculate a realistic fundraising goal while developing an effective mix of fundraising tactics and opportunities to focus resources on. 
  • Implement recognition and stewardship programs to ensure major donors feel valued, engaged, and connected to the organization's work.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions, cultivation activities, and gift commitments.

Qualifications

  • Results-oriented mindset with the ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and meet fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, or foundations (or related/relevant experience)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to interact effectively and diplomatically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of non-profit fundraising strategies and best practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A positive attitude and a natural networker
  • Familiarity and/or understanding of the animal welfare sector and surrounding issues is an asset.
  • Passionate about animal welfare and the success of a safe haven for displaced farm animals.

Time Commitment and Location

  • Flexible hours, approximately 4 hours a week
  • Remote; work from home. 
  • The availability to travel to the sanctuary, located in Codys, New Brunswick, on occasion would be a strong asset. 
  • Volunteer must be located in Canada, preferably in Atlantic Canada, or at least very familiar with the unique challenges of farmed animal sanctuaries in rural Canada.
