Description

Lily's Place, a vegan-run sanctuary for aging, injured, and displaced farm animals, is seeking a skilled Grant Specialist. In this volunteer role, the Grant Specialist will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities and developing grant proposals with the support of the board of directors. Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of grant application processes, excellent writing and communication skills, and a passion for farmed animal welfare.

Responsibilities:

  • Research potential grant opportunities that align with the mission and values of Lily's Place Animal Sanctuary
  • Collaborate and consult with the board of directors regarding goals and objectives for new funding, priorities and needs, creation of documents required for grant submissions, and ongoing grant research, writing, and submission.
  • Grant project management, tracking, and reporting. 
  • Regular check-ins to help monitor the alignment of projects, progress, and deliverables and timelines.
  • Monitor grant progress and make adjustments as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders and community partners, including connecting with grant-making foundations and organizations to solicit feedback and establish positive working relationships.

Qualifications

  • Experience or a proven track record of successfully securing grants is a strong asset.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Knowledge of non-profit fundraising strategies and best practices
  • Experience with grant databases and research tools
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A positive attitude
  • Familiarity and/or understanding of the animal welfare sector and surrounding issues is an asset.
  • Passionate about animal welfare 
  • Familiar with Google Sheets, Docs, and Drive.

Time Commitment and Location

  • Flexible hours, approximately 4 hours a week
  • Remote; work from home.
  • Volunteer must be located in Canada or at least very familiar with the unique challenges of farmed animal sanctuaries in Canada.
