Opal Family Services runs a Kids Club Monday-Friday from school dismissal time to 5:30pm, and in the summer these hours will expand to include programming for different age groups in the mornings and afternoons from Monday-Friday. We focus on providing fun and engaging programming and community outings for children with disabilities. Our typical activities include arts and crafts, science experiments, obstacle courses, themed holiday parties, etc. We also love to take our youth out into the community to engage in many different activities like apple picking, Odell Park, Swimming at the indoor pool, and Hanwell Recreation Park, just to name a few.
Opal is constantly in need of volunteers for our Kids Club. Typically, what we expect of volunteers is to help set up before the group starts and clean up after the group ends, engage with the youth who attend the group, help prepare snacks when needed, help children engage in the planned activities. Volunteers are expected to bring a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun to the group. On outings, it's a simple as coming along, having fun, and being paired with a child who requires support.
We encourage anyone who has a desire to have fun and is open to new experiences to come out and volunteer with us. Kids Club is the highlight of our youth's weeks, and it is the same for many of our volunteers as well!
