ABOUT CULTURAL BROKERS PROGRAM
If you know more than one language, immigrated to Canada from a different country, interested in helping newcomers to settle and integrate into Canadian society, then becoming a Cultural Broker with MCAF might be your next step!
Cultural Brokers are connected with newcomers who are facing multiple barriers to settlement and integration. A cultural broker enhances access to community services for newcomers and supports organizations in the community that wish to offer culturally sensitive and inclusive services to newcomers. This is often done through interpretation into various languages and on-demand.
Requirements:
Potential interpreter candidates are required to demonstrate the following:
• Proven proficiency in English (CLB benchmark: 8/8; ILTS: 6.5, completed level 6 -at least or Canadian education (university/college), certificate/diploma)
• Proven proficiency/competency in the first language and evidence of that (i.e. minimum of a secondary education diploma from a country of origin, in targeted language)
• PR status or a valid work permit
• Demonstrated personal suitability for interpretation
• Willingness to submit required documents and to complete required training.
• Legal age maturity age of 19
Requirements for becoming a Cultural Broker:
- Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector
- Resume
- Cultural Broker application
- Introduction to Interpretation training
