The Volunteer ESL Tutor Program aims to create a supportive and empowering environment for newcomers by providing them with one-on-one language tutoring. As an ESL tutor, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals who are striving to improve their English language skills. By dedicating just a few hours a week, you can help newcomers integrate into the new community, enhance their communication abilities, and unlock new opportunities for them.
Requirements of the program:
- Confidence in English proficiency
- Ability to commit to 3–6 months and meet weekly for 1–1.5 hours
- Must be 18 years or older
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Respect for cultural diversity and confidentiality
- Reliable and punctual
English proficiency can be demonstrated by one of the following:
- CLB benchmark: 6 or higher
- IELTS: 6.5
- Canadian education

- Recent criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
*A Criminal Record Check with the vulnerable sector check can be obtained through:
- Fredericton Police (online): for applicants living within city limits, residing in Canada for over a year, and who have previously applied for a CRC.
- Fredericton City Hall (in person): for applicants living within city limits, residing in Canada less than a year, and applying for the first time.

*Please note: If you already have a CRC w/VSC that is no older than six months, we can accept it. *Applicant must be 18 years or older.
