Description

Be a Friend – Make a Friend: An Enriching Cultural Experience Awaits!

Looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? Join the MCAF Community Connections Program and become a friend to newcomers in Fredericton!

The First Fredericton Friend (FFF) program connects local volunteers with newly arrived individuals and families participating in MCAF’s settlement programs. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share your culture, learn about others, and build lasting friendships.

Volunteers support newcomers by:

  • Offering social support and helping them feel at home
  • Introducing them to local places like markets, grocery stores, parks, and community events
  • Practicing English conversation
  • Sharing and learning about each other’s traditions and customs
  • Exchanging ideas, information, and resources

We especially welcome Canadian-born and long-settled immigrants to volunteer and support Government Assisted Refugee (GAR) families—individuals who have fled their countries to seek safety and a new beginning in Canada.

What we ask from volunteers:

  • Attend a training session
  • Commit to a 6-month match with a newcomer individual or family
  • Be open to building a genuine friendship based on shared interests
