Who We Are
Tannery Court, built and managed by Avide Developments under Co-op Atlantic, is a non-profit organization offering affordable co-operative housing in the community.
What We Do
In 2004, Avide created the first Tannery Court Co-operative to provide affordable housing to singles at risk of homelessness in New Brunswick. There are now six Tannery Court projects in the province, each operated on co-operative housing principles to foster independence and self-growth among the residents and engage them in decision making and operations. All of the Tannery Court Co-operative buildings are in a central location, either close to amenities or being well served by public transportation.
In 2010, Avide hired a dedicated support services manager, who is trained as a clinical counsellor, to work with tenants and match their needs with community support programs. Typical support includes workplace skills development, finance basics, self-esteem, conflict management, smoking cessation, substance abuse and recovery, cooking, and fitness. Elderly tenants can access support that helps them maintain their independence, such as personal care, meals and housekeeping.
