Who We Are

YSSR has operated in the Fredericton/Oromocto Area since 1983. We are all volunteers and funded by donations. Our volunteers are trained in first aid, search and rescue techniques, navigation and outdoor survival to find lost or missing persons as fast as possible. We can be called by law enforcement 24/7. We also have members who do not participate in searches, but are active in supporting the organization through fundraising, educational programs, PR or community supports such as traffic management.

What We Do

YSSR is a Ground Search and Rescue Team which assists police agencies with missing or lost person incidents, evidence searches, or with assistance in times of emergencies.  We also may help other agencies throughout NB and the maritimes in mutual aid if required.  Our members also can assist in community events such as parade marshalling or first aid support, and they also assist the agency in fundraising and promotional activities.  YSSR delivers the Project Lifesaver International (PLI) service which uses a transmitter bracelet and receiver to quickly locate participants at higher risk of becoming lost due to cognitive conditions such as Alzheimers, Autism and brain injuries.  We are also requested by schools and scouting groups to give Adventure Smart Programs which are educational programs focused on staying safe outdoors including information on outdoor survival, snow and water safety ( Hug A Tree or Survive Outside).
