Opal Family Services runs a teen group every Thursday from 6-8 PM on the North Side of Fredericton. Every week, we focus on providing fun and engaging programming including occasional outings, for youth with disabilities. Our typical activities include bingo, arts and crafts, make your own pizza night, and themed holiday parties, among others. We also love to take our youth out into the community to engage in many different activities like bowling and apple picking.
Opal is constantly in need of volunteers for our teen group. Typically, what we expect of volunteers is to help set up before the group starts, and clean up after the group ends, engage with the youth who attend the group, help prepare snack when needed, help youth engage in the planned activities. Volunteers are expected to bring a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun to the group. There is NO expectation for volunteers to assist any of the youth with toileting or dressing.
We encourage anyone who has a desire to have fun and is open to new experiences to come out and volunteer with us. Teen group is the highlight of our youth's weeks, and it is the same for many of our volunteers as well!
