United Way is running our Living on the Edge poverty simulation this upcoming Tuesday November 19th, 2019. It's an unforgettable experience for volunteers and participants, as you take an interactive approach to learn about poverty right here in Fredericton.
Living on the Edge is a 3 hour morning simulation. During this simulation, participants begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. Participants have specific family profiles and have tasks they need to complete in order to survive the month, including buying food, making loan payments, buying medication, etc.
Volunteers are needed to work at stations that represent those available to our community. A brief orientation is provided before the simulation to help you understand your role. It's an easy volunteer opportunity and you'll love the discussion and debrief that takes place at the end.
Although this simulation does not provide first-hand, lived experience of those living in poverty, it will promote sympathy, education, and help participants begin to understand the struggles, stresses, and barriers of many people living in our communities.
Time: 8:15am-12 pm (There is some flexibility in departure time).
Location: Multicultural Association of Fredericton- 28 Saunders St, Fredericton
