Memory Café Committee Member Description

 

What is a Memory Café?

A Memory Café is a safe, inclusive and welcoming space. People living with any stage of Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, their care partners and their community come together in a stigma-free environment to socialize, learn and have fun. 

 

A Memory Café is typically a two-hour program that offers opportunities for learning, connections and joy.  A Memory Café often includes guest speakers or performers, fun activities and snacks.

 

The Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick is working to offer Memory Cafés throughout New Brunswick.

 

What does a Memory Café volunteer do?

 

·        Work with a team to plan, prepare for and deliver a monthly Memory Café.

·        Receive training and support from the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

·        Provide a valuable program to people living with dementia and care partners, and contribute to their community.

·        May take on a variety of roles, such as inviting guest speakers or performers, planning fun activities, serving snacks and engaging with participants.

 

What qualities do I need to be a Memory Café Committee member?

 

·        Friendly and welcoming attitude

·        Experience or interest in event planning

·        Creativity, organization and communication skills

·        General understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia

·        Familiarity with the community

·        Enjoy working as part of a team

 

Time Required:

           

Memory Café Committee Members commit 4-5 hours per month to prepare for, deliver and follow up on their program. Memory Café’s are held from September to June. Volunteers should commit to facilitating a minimum of three consecutive programs.

What does a Caregiver Support Network facilitator do?               

·        Work with a partner to create and maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for care partners to share knowledge and support.

·        Receive training and support from the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

·        Have an opportunity to connect with care partners and contribute to their community.

 

What skills or qualifications do I need to be a facilitator?

·        Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal)

·        Ability to work independently, as well as in a team

·        General understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia

·        Experience facilitating or attending a support group (optional)

 

How much volunteer time is needed to be as facilitator?             

Facilitators commit three to four hours per month to prepare for, deliver and follow up on their program. The program is not usually offered in July/August and during the late December/early January holiday season. Volunteers should commit to facilitating a minimum of three months of their Caregiver Support Network.

Title:                           Volunteer for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s

 

Summary: 

The Alzheimer Society will be hosting in-person events in May 2024 to celebrate the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. We are currently looking for volunteers to help organize the event in Fredericton  

 

Position Benefits:    

The volunteer will be given the opportunity to gain valuable experience, while having a positive impact on the lives of New Brunswick families who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.  

 

Responsibilities:      

Each event is managed by a volunteer planning committee and guided by a volunteer chair-person. The responsibilities of the committee are as follows:

 Coordinate event logistics

Recruit participants and event day volunteers Identify potential local sponsors and prize donors Support marketing and promotion in the community Distribute materials

 

Qualifications:· Friendly and warm demeanor

Excellent communication and organizational skills Computer skills are an asset Criminal record check required

 

 

Term:      January to early June 2024

 

 

Time required:           The volunteer would commit approximately 2-3 hours per week, flexible schedule.
