Who We Are

Located in a 174-year old former jail in Frederiction, New Brunswick, Canada, Science East immediately evokes a sense of adventure and curiosity. 150 hands-on science exhibits and outdoor science playground offer the chance to tinker, experiment and test “what ifs”. Since 1994, artisans, scientists, engineers, and tradesman have collaborated with Science East to reimagine and redesign exhibits from around the world--downscaling the size for outreach and travel. This innovative solution to space constraints provides 18,000 annual science centre visitors with diverse learning opportunities and facilitates outreach to 40,000 people across New Brunswick. In 2014, the Canadian Association of Science Centres awarded the science centre with the Best Outreach Program in Canada. A small centre doing big things for science education.

What We Do

Science East is New Brunswick's only hands-on science centre. Located in a fascinating historic property, the centre's 150 hands-on exhibits teach the basics of science in a fun and compelling way. In summertime, Science East offers public science demos daily and Atlantic Canada's only outdoor science playground. The science centre is Fredericton's most popular family attraction, attracting 19,000-20,000 visitors annually. Science East is deeply engaged with New Brunswick schools and reaches over 34,000 people across the province each year. The science centre has always understood the importance of supporting teachers and schools and offers a wide selection of travelling exhibits, STEM events, career programs, and professional learning opportunities for teachers. Science East also manages the provincial science fair program and mentors New Brunswick's Canada-Wide Science Fair team prior to their departure for the annual national fair. Programs and services are available in both official languages.
