ElderDog Canada Inc. is a national, community-based, non-profit organization with a mission to:

  • Assist and support older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions.
  • Provide care and companionship for older dogs whose lives have been disrupted due to illness or death of a human companion.
  • Educate health and animal care professionals and the general public of all ages about the human-animal bond in general and the significant role of companion animals in the health and well-being of seniors in particular.

What We Do

We assist and support older adults in Fredericton to maintain ownership of their dogs in their own homes, by helping exercise pets and taking pets to appointments with vets and groomers. Also, we assist with rehoming dogs when a new home is necessary.

Our mission at ElderDog is to honour and preserve the human-animal bond through care, companionship, commemoration, and education. We do this through programs that include:

  • help for seniors with daily dog care activities
  • foster care and adoption of older dogs
  • long-term care planning for companion dogs
  • volunteering and service learning
  • education and research opportunities
  • bereavement support
  • commemoration and perpetual care
